Frequently Asked Questions

Product Features & Performance

Correctional grade lighting refers to luminaires designed for detention centers and prisons that feature reinforced housings, vandal resistance, and secure mounting systems.
Ligature-resistant lighting refers to luminaires specifically designed to prevent attachment points that could be used for self-harm in behavioral health and correctional environments.
Ligature-resistant fixtures eliminate protrusions and exposed hardware while using tamper-resistant fasteners and sealed housings to minimize attachment points that could be used for self-harm.
Ligature-resistant lighting helps reduce the risk of self-harm and improves safety for patients and staff in behavioral health environments.
Behavioral health facilities typically use ligature-resistant LED luminaires with tamper-resistant hardware, sealed construction, and impact-resistant lenses to support patient safety.

Safety & Compliance

IK10 is the highest impact resistance rating for lighting fixtures and indicates strong protection against mechanical impact.
Yes. Barron behavioral health fixtures are designed to be flicker-free. This is important because some patients are highly sensitive to lighting fluctuations that can cause discomfort or headaches.
Healthcare lighting often requires certifications such as cETL listing and wet location ratings depending on the application.
CRI, or Color Rendering Index, measures how accurately a light source displays colors. Higher CRI improves visibility and color accuracy in healthcare environments.
Antimicrobial finishes inhibit the growth of bacteria on fixture surfaces, making them beneficial in healthcare and medical environments.

Installation & Ordering

There is no formal compliance requirement for OMH approval. Projects proceed through the normal permitting and inspection process, but Barron fixtures are designed to align with New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS-OMH) behavioral health guidelines.
Standard T-bar grids are typically 5/16 inch wide, but wider grids up to 1.5 inches are also used. The fixture frame is designed to accommodate these wider grids while still allowing the grid door to swing open for service and maintenance.
Sealed lighting fixtures prevent dust, particles, and contaminants from entering the luminaire and the cleanroom environment.
